1) Our troops in countries that will always fight each other and will always hate us while we have runaway illegals here in this country. The budget can be balanced by clearing out our country of illegals and stopping all the lifetime welfare. Did you know an illegal make thousands more a year than a person who worked their whole lives and paid into SS
2) No work is being done to bring manufacturing back to the US – our country cannot be successful if we do not make what we need here. There was a time that made in China was a joke and junk and now I cannot find clothes made in America
3) A President that cannot prove where he was born and if he has dual citizenship and whose records from kindergarden and up we have never seen
4) We need term limits to clear out washington and we also need to stop the lifetime appointments in the court
5) Cut taxes – it worked for Reagan
I agree with the above comments. Illegal Immigrants destroy our repertation with other people trying to use our current system to become USA citizens.
Detroit (Corporate Management, Union, and Stockholders) kept doing the same old things for decades and let the “hungry” Japanese out perform Detroit by creating higher quality autos at lower prices.
We can compete with other countries in manufacturing but we have to be willing to change.
1) I think we should put the past behind us and forget about Gov. Sanford as he is ineffective. We need to look to the future and choose Gresham Barrett as our new Governor .
2) We need Conservative experienced leadership for our state.
3) Jobs and small business along with farming are the backbone of our economy and we need our next governor to concentrate on that.
4) We also need someone that will stand up for the rights of the state.
5) We need someone that will help the senior citizens (myself included) with their needs as most of us have paid their way.
6) We need to upgrade education system in SC by teaching the students something that they can use in the real world.
I have many-many more thoughts but not the time or space to express them now. I sincerely give you my 100% support in your campaign for Governor of SC
Tom, you are a very smart individual because you recognize what this country was founded on – FREEDOM, LIBERTY. We don’t really teach governance in our schools, as well as what our two great founding documents say – THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE AND THE CONSTITUTION. The Federal Government violates these two great documents every day by usurping state authority and claiming unconstitutional Federal authority. AMERICA IS RISING UP TO DEFEAT THE LIBERAL, SOCIALIST IDIOTS IN WASHINGTON.
Allow me to say, this email will probably never make it to your desk. I accept that.
As a proud “recent” transplant to SC, I am honored to support your campaign for Governor. I am not a GOP Party member nor do I plan to sign up for the GOP.
I am voting for you Gresham Barrett – the Man. I think you will make a difference.
Having met you and some of your staff on several different occasions, I was impressed by what I saw. I must alaso say that I am concerned that you are not actively reaching out to or addressing the vote of color. That is where my vote will be coming from, as well as my wife’s and both son’s in your future re-election campaign.
The voter demographics are changing, the voters are looking for more than just the “way we do it here…in SC”. They are very knowledgable and savvy. They also know how to exercise their vote. And do use that VOTE!
When I heard you were running for Governor, I immediately called your office and offered to help your campaign any way I could. I specifically asked how I could help you capture the black and Latino vote, as they are becoming the majority. I fit into one of those categories.
It disappoints me that no one from your campign (the insiders) took my willingness to help as serious. No one ever called me back. After several telephone calls on my end to your campaign headquarters, I have stopped trying to particpate. If I have to work this hard just to get “invited or allowed” to work on your campaign trail, I can only imagine what it will be like when you get elected Governor.
Regardless of your take or position on President Obama, the people of the United States of America have SPOKEN! Your campaign advisors are great people, but they really need to to take the people that look like me serious…if you plan to get elected.
Again I take the time to send this email directly to you, in hopes that you may read it.
Every federal employee from the President down to the custodial staff should have the same retirement plan and the same health care plan as to the people who employ them.
Republicans should remember who and what they are. Losing the Presidency, the senate and the house is unforgiveable, but Republicans lost it themselves, the Democrats did not win it. We will suffer for years because of this massive idiocy sponsored by the members of the Republican Party who were in Washington.
There are enough criminals in Washington (both in the Senate and in the House) that the Justice Department (although run by the Demos) should be forced to investigate and arrest them all. There are no real fire balls in Washington (except Jim DeMint) although Joe Wilson certainly did the right thing. He called a liar a liar. People in Washington don’t care for the truth either.
Previous comments by the above supporters get a “me, too” from me. Something has got to give and Obama and the Democrats must go also.
I WILL NEVER KNOWINGLY VOTE OR GIVE A CONTRIBUTION TO ANY CANDIDATE WHO SUPPORTS ,IN ANY WAY , THE KILLING OF OUR CHILDREN IN THE MOTHER’S WOMB, NOR THE SANCTIONING OF EUTHANASIA.
I also wanted to comment on too much money being spent on School BUILDINGS. They are not what teach our children, the teachers are. The salaries of the teachers need to be increased and the teachers that are not effective need to be fired. I have teachers in my family and it is pitiful what teachers are in the system and allowed to continue.
Will be happy to contribute once I receive your committment, written to push for tort reform and loser pays and elimination of any attempt to place taxes on chemotherapy for cancer patients. Jay Bearden
Remember that everybody is human show everybody love. Consider how everyone needs forgiveness and a jobs. No abortion, No Gay Rights, and marriage is between a man and a woman. A family is a man and woman with papers. and children.
I agree that teachers are under paid, but do not agree that administrators need any more money at least until we reorganize our school districts to eliminate top heavy districts. We have 46 countys, WE NEED 46 SCHOOL DISTRICTS ONLY. Give the teachers the money wasted on too many administrators.
Instead of being administrators, school officials have become blood sucking leeches who rob our children from having a good education with their salaries and waste. Put school money in the classrooms where it belongs
I have known Gresham since our days at The Citadel and had a personal experience where Gresham stood up and took full responsibility when he could have easily put it on someone else. I have known Gresham since we were 18 and I have seen Gresham practice selfless humility and always pursuing what is right….not what is comfortable, convenient or safe. He would make a great govenor because he push his own self interest aside to do the right thing.
One thing that does bother me is the abortion issue. So many girls get pregnant, get abortions, get pregnant, get abortions. I will not vote for abortions ever in my lifetime. It is a life and we are taking God’s control in our hands by aborting a living fetus. Good Luck and you have my vote in
2010. We stand by you 100%.
i think most of the questions in these types of surveys are phrased in a way that one can only answer in a way that appears to support the party giving the survey. there is usually insufficient information in the question for one to evaluate the issue so that one can give an answer that truely represents their point of view. why not just state the issue and give people the chance to respond with something other than yes, no, undecided or none of the above?
Higher Education is this state is suffering. Colleges are supported less and less and have to raise tuition. Students can’t afford to stay in school. If you want to attract businesses to this state…give the workforce SKILLS by helping them stay college.
Gresham, YOu don’t have to post what I said earlier, but do go talk to Pat Duke, my husband…..it’s very bad for our farmers, us, and small business. If you do post it, edit however you want to. Hello Grisham,
I was introduced to you by Senator Jim DeMint in an e-mail that he sent to me awhile back,
I am for a candidate who is very honest, moral and upstanding, someone who backs up their campaign promises and keeps them. Someone who is a genuine family man. Cares about the people of his state and does what he can do to help them.
I am for a republican who says what he does, and does what he says, A very true republcan who backs up his words with actions, and deeds, not just words. He also practices what he preaches.
We in the state of SC need a true and new governor who will work hard to make SC what it needs to be, we need someone who will stand up for the people and represent SC in congress all the way. Also, make govt. for the people, of the people, and by the people. Govt. shouldn’t be a mandated beaurocracy that orders people around.
I think that when a job is lost regardless of whether or not the individual has a type of educational degree they should be able to get educational help If a new career is necessary for them to continue to live in their permanent home and seek a new/different job due to availability within the area then the government should help with funding. Especially if their job was sent to another country! Grade requirements of course would have to be met or repayment of funds would be necessary. The help MUST be there if we are to prosper as a nation and not become a third world country. Even though Wall Street is rebounding, a large percentage of those who become unemployed are still unemployed. They either cannot find work within their background/living area or cannot afford to re-educate to find another career. Please help!
I was with Gresham at the Citadel October 22nd for the senior class dinner. His remarks were ight on the money. Send me info on contributing to his campaign.
There are several ways to help the citizens here in SC. Several legislative “helps” that were started a few years ago need to be finished:
Stop inheritance taxation.
Stop repeated property taxes. Property owners should “OWN” their property! Education taxes generated by property tax must be replaced through other contributions and taxes paid by all residence in SC. A reduction of waste by all schools systems is needed!
Stop media corruption in SC. Enforce FCC laws on radio & TV etc.
Stop SC representatives and SC government officials that fail to keep their oath of office. People guilty of perjury must be disciplined and removed from their office!
Stronger law enforcement in SC. THere is too much leniency in handling crimes by gangs, and illegal immigrants!
Retribution by uninsured motorists to repay the loss of property, goods and expenses!!
Greater investigation into our police force to remove the criminal element there.
Legislation that guarantees screening and public notification of eligibility of nominees for SC state and federal representation according to their political preferences. Legal infractions must carry consequences of their removal from office.
SC Education must eradicate all dictates and influence of the NEA. All public schools must use curriculum with accurate US History and also include South Carolina History. True science, fundamentals of mathematics and English Grammar and Composition must be returned to the classroom. All schools must return to an environment for study and research without the numerous distractions, disruptions and detriments.
Remove the Business Property and Use Tax -ASAP that is a huge burden on businesses.
Help boost smaller businesses in SC by establishing several county area “marketplaces” for businesses (including businesses without store fronts) to set up 2 day (Friday & Saturday) “Meet the Public” demonstrations etc. of products & services that are tax free. These will produce consumer awareness, increase SC productivity and stimulate buying and economical activity.
Stop abortion in SC and teach the value of life and greater care for our children!
Establish a website for “MAde in South Carolina” products to be listed with website links and “Marketplace” news!! Let everyone know what we do in our great state!! Promoting small business will produce great business!
Uf we want to improve education how about teaching the basics and quit with all the policically correct garbage. And singing chants to Obama is just indoctranation not education.
1. I strongly support “Constitutional Government;” I do not support government take-overs of private sector industries like health-care; the automobile industry; insurance and finance sectors; education; and, transportation.
2. I am a firm believer in private health-care insurance and adamantly oppose any attempt at the so called “public option” for health care. This is a fundamental proposition for bringing socialism into our lives. This is wrong.
3. I strongly support the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and firmly believe it is not only a personal (individual) right, but that it applies to all 50 States and all of our territories or common wealths. The wording is absolutely clear and unmistakable in its application.
4. We need to revampt our entire education system and base teacher’s pay of outcome, not feelings. We are losing in the international arena with our best technical jobs being out-sourced. This will gain us nothing in the long haul.
WE NEED EFFECTIVE,HONORABLE,NEW- LEADERSHIP
We have not/are not seeing any DYNAMIC progress,as our being represented by a majority who converse with specific ‘buddylinkgroups’ business developers;and- ‘others’ ,who do not care about what is best for the state,or,it’s people.
SELF SERVING REPRESENTATIVE CHOICES-SERVED UP ‘RED CARPET CAVIAR’ – WITH OUR TAX DOLLARS, AND, FEDERAL MONIES.
NOT ENOUGH GOOD REPRESENTATIVES TO RENDER THE RIGHT CHOICE,TO REIGN.
WE ARE OVERWHELMED BY ON GOING,ASSORTED ‘AIG’ s WITHIN OUR OWN STATE-AND NO ONE IS HELD ACCOUNTABLE,AS THEY SHOULD BE.
ALL STATE AGENCIES,AND REPRESENTATIVES, SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE,IN ALL THINGS.
WE,THE PEOPLE,WORK HARD FOR OUR MONEY,AND OUR TAX PAYERS DOLLARS THAT S.C. REALIZES -BY THE SWEAT OF OUR TAX PAYERS BLOOD, SHOULD BE USED, TO SERVE US-WELL.
LEADERS. DECIDE. AND ‘GIVE’ TAX MONIES,OFTEN,AS A SPIT IN OUR FACES.
WE HAVE LOST MILLIONS,NOTHING GAINED.
WE NEED A REFUND!,OR- – THE EQUIVALENT.
CLEARLY,SOME OF US CAN DO A BETTER JOB.
POOR PEOPLE,THOSE OF US WHO HAVE NOT MUCH IN FINANCES, HAVE, HOWEVER,GREAT POTENTIAL WHICH WOULD BENEFIT OUR S.C., GREATLY,AND,CERTAINLY,NOT AS COSTLY,SHOULD,REIGN.
SMALL BUSINESS IS THE BACKBONE OF AMERICA.
GIVE TO THE POOR PEOPLE THIER LONG,OVERDUE CHANCE.
GOVERNOR SANDFORD NEVER GAVE US THE TIME.
WE NEED VISIONARY LEADERSHIP,THAT CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH CAROLINA CAN ACCOMPLISH FOR OUR STATE.
LISTEN.
LET OUR INNOVATIVE IDEAS BE BORN,BACK US UP-WITH OUR OWN TAX DOLLARS!,AFTER ALL,IT DOES BELONG TO US!
HELP US TO FIND, AND ACHIEVE, GRANTS,NOT JUST TO SIMPLY POINT AND LEAVE US TO FIND OUR WAY,AS GRAHAM’S OFFICE.
HELP US-TO HELP OURSELVES,AND,OUR SOUTH CAROLINA.
WHERE,IS,A PERSON TO SERVE US AS GOVERNOR,HAVING THE GUTS,ENOUGH, TO DO THESE THINGS,MENTIONED,AND,WHATEVER ELSE,NECESSARY?
IS THIS,YOU,GRESHAM BARRETT?
I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR YOUR ANSWER TO THIS?
HAVE YOU,THE TIME?
All this sounds like pie in the sky to me. Get all th illegals out of the country? I don’t think so. BUT, How about that fence? What ever happened to that? Some say it can’t be built. Bull! It can! Just give the contract to the right people and sit back and watch. Now let’s get realistic. NO MORE ILLIGALS! I will buy that. Then we can set about the task of making the ones that are here legal. We have to stop the flood before we can pump out the water.
WAR! Can not bring them home till Al Quida is history… No other alternatives, nothing else to be said unless you want to wake up one morning sleeping with one of the bastards.
I like congressional term limits, I like Raegan Economics, and I think and hope the next step for MR. OBAMA, after 2010, is IMPEACHMENT.
The most pressing issue for local, state, and federal governments today is the need for government reform. Government has grown to the point where it is not only stifling, it is unsustainable. Most of what government does today can be replaced with one law that says, If any entity does anything to harm the rights, well being, or property, including the money, of American citizens, they will be arrested, prosecuted, fined, incarcerated and/or put to death.
This law would be applicable to things that government does, like health care reform where, after intentionally limiting competition in the industry for over a century and driving prices up on behalf of the industry, the government now wants to take the same number of limited resources and spread them out over another 30-50 million people. Availability will go down and prices will skyrocket while providing the industry access to a taxpayer subsidized larger market.
Also included would be things like cap and trade where, based on a widely disputed theory, the government wants to drive the cost of energy, and everything that uses energy in its production and delivery, up to the point where the population will not be able to afford the things that it requires to survive. This is especially diabolical in that a large portion of the population will not be able to keep its utilities turned on in the winter or summer, afford to drive to work, buy as much food or medication and, as a result, will begin to get sick and die.
While many things, like unnecessary wars and the refusal to protect our borders, are harmful to American citizens the two things above are especially harmful to the population and the people trying to implement them should be eliminated from the government roles.
All taxes are but a necessary burden in order to operate the government. Fair taxation is the key. We need a reliable tax revenue source during recessions, which is my biggest reason to oppose the Fair Tax. We all believe in a fair tax. Deciding what is “fair” is the debate.
I support equal funding for education based on student population of districts rather than tax revenue of districts.
I support stronger laws protecting workers so that we don’t unintentionally invite labor unions.
I support a more efficient government that is less top heavy and simply more responsible. No more raises for elected officials.
Anything as serious as an abortion should be thoroughly discussed with a doctor; any doctor that agrees to a quickie abortion is questionably unethical.
I am less concerned about drilling platforms being an eyesore than I am about them being an environmental sore. We should re-evaluate our restrictions on drilling while continuing our conscientious protection of the environment.
Loser pay is a stupid idea. I’m a personal injury trial attorney and my clients and I would love it. I could recover way more money from defendants if I could force Defendants to pay me after the trial, and my settlements would go up too because Defendants would have the danger of having to pay not only my client’s damages, but my fees too. Again, very few trial attorneys knowingly bring non-meritorious lawsuits. Think about it. We are going to take a contingency fee on a fraudulent claim, and invest thousands of our own money in the costs for such a case? Ask some of your defense attorney friends. They know.
The problem with medical cost inflation is not frivolous claims, but medical malpractice insurance premiums that increase without any basis for such increases.
Please send out another e-mail letting these folks know that you will be at the Charleston Repulican Meeting on Monday, November 9, 2009 at 7:00p.m. in chambers of North Charleston City Hall. Ask that they bring their neighbors and friends. The only way to change the current status of government is for everyone to get involved. We have all sat back too long and it is time to stand up and be counted.
Agree with a lot of the comments posted. I will be out of luck if the current administration gets their way – I have federal retirement, federal insurance, and medicare and they are after them all…. Did all the right things throughout my life and do not want to end up with government taking everything I worked for.
You have some good idea’s—I think the most important issue locally is the problem our schools are having. Too much money gets intercepted before it ever reaches the classroom. Far too many teachers are having to use their own money for teaching supplies–or try to count on a fund-raiser. We are in a bad position money-wise right now and a flawed system makes it worse.
We are NOT near the bottom in education, as some “dimocrats” claim, but we have high standards required to graduate. With a bit of reform, we could accomplish a lot.
I have recently returned to South Carolina after 5 years living in the Northern Virginia metro area. I watched as that state went for Obama because of the promises he made to change what people perceived as broken systems. Any politician can make promises. Virginia just sent a strong message to the White House by electing McDonnel as their new governor. So far it appears that the White House is still not listening.
South Carolina is a Republican stronghold, but if the the elected officials forget their principles and continue to spend frivolously and needlessly, they will also discover that the good people in the State of South Carolina and the general population of the United States are watching what they do.
When government is so big and bloated that families feel this in their cost of living and ability to provide for their families they will finally take notice and start digging into what is being done with their hard-earned tax dollars. Government officials should take their fiduciary responsibility seriously as they spend the money they take from their constituents.
I consider myself a Conservative, after years of voting Republican, and will be much more selective in the future as to who I support.
Your questionnaire leads me to think you are also conservative, but I will do more research to see if that is substantiated.
I am very disappointed in the practices of some of the SC elected officials and will be active in seeing that common sense and good values are promoted here.
I am against abortion. But, I am also against the goverment telling a woman she cant have one.( Think about it)
I believe in seat belts. But, I think that cities use it as a tax to raise money. Has your car insurance premium gone down since seat belts laws were passed?
I believe that 10s of 1000s of people that pay 0 property taxes send thier kids to school for free.
I believe that S.C. universities have increased tuition to an amount that is equal to what a child will recieve from the lottery.
I believe that gambling should be legal in S.C.
I do not want to see oil rigs off the coast of S.C.
I think the flag should come down so that the NAACP will quit whining.
I believe that the majority of people in elected office would not no how to create a job , balance a checkbook, meet a budget, and never will.
I believe that 10s of 1000s of people in S.C. sell thier “Food Stamp” cards for cash everday in S.C. and nothing is done about it.
I think that Sanford was right about goverment over spending and wrong about women.
I think that Jenny Sanford would make any man want to take a hike.

Using all Caps in an e-mail or comment section of a website is generally considered to be rude behavior.
Stay the course
You are going to make a great governor!
And lastly “Its jobs that we need”
