Last week, President Obama pledged to speed up the stimulus program – after 4 months, he still thinks if the government would just spend more money then we can solve our problems. Well, that reminded me of some of the most wasteful spending included in the so called stimulus bill. So, I thought I’d make a quick top ten list to share with you. I wish I could say it was funny, but the truth is we all should be outraged. I’m anxious to hear what you have to say.
10. Volcano Monitoring Systems ($140 Million)
9. Federal Government to Purchase “Green Golf Carts” ($300
Million)
8. NASA ($1.3 Billion)
7. Design and Furnish the Department of Homeland Security
Headquarters ($200 Million)
6. Build an “Eco-Passage” so Lizards, Turtles and Alligators Can
Cross the Highway ($3.4 Million)
5. Digital Television Transition Program ($650 Million)
4. Polar Ice Breaker for the Coast Guard ($98 Million)
3. Community Based Prevention and Wellness Programs,
Including Funds for the Prevention of Sexually Transmitted
Diseases ($650 Million)
2. National Endowment of the Arts ($50 Million)
And the number one reason I voted against the stimulus…
1. Protect the San Francisco Harvest Mouse ($30 Million)
