Former Senator Rick Santorum Backs Barrett

COLUMBIA, SC – Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum joined U.S. Congressman Gresham Barrett on the campaign trail in South Carolina this week. During the two-day tour, Senator Santorum announced his endorsement of the Upstate Republican for governor of South Carolina.

Santorum, a nationally-recognized leader in the conservative movement, said he believes the upcoming election for governor of South Carolina is critical to the state’s future. “South Carolina is facing serious challenges, and those challenges require serious leadership,” said Santorum. “Gresham Barrett has proven he has what it takes to lead an economic turnaround in South Carolina. He’s run a small business. He’s led men and women in the U.S. Army, and he is the only candidate to have served in elected office at both the state and federal level. But, most importantly, Gresham Barrett is a conservative who can get things done. He can bring people together from all walks of life, unite them behind his conservative vision for South Carolina and lead this state in a new era of economic prosperity.”

Santorum also highlighted Barrett’s conservative credentials saying, “You just don’t get much more conservative than Gresham Barrett. He has earned a 98% lifetime score from the American Conservative Union. He’s been repeatedly endorsed by the National Right to Life Committee, the National Rifle Association and the National Federation of Independent Business. Simply put, Gresham Barrett is a conservative’s conservative.”

Congressman Barrett thanked Senator Santorum for his support stating, “For almost twenty years, Rick Santorum has been on the frontlines of the conservative movement. He has earned the respect and admiration of countless Americans for his principled stands on the important issues facing our nation. I am honored to have his support and grateful to call him my friend.”
