Excerpt from The Sun News: The fight for the right

“When it comes to that interstate [I-73], every candidate for anything who comes to Myrtle Beach best be prepared to talk about it. Thus far, Barrett’s idea ranks among the best we’ve heard: As governor, he said, he would meet monthly with the state’s congressional delegation on this and other federal issues, asking what he can do to best support their efforts. It’s a simple answer, but extremely credible: Since much of the money for I-73 will come from Washington, the guys there are bound to be the experts on it.
What else could a governor do? He could pledge to maintain the state’s $1 million or so yearly I-73 contribution and keep it a top priority for the S.C. Department of Transportation. Barrett could also have promised to listen to state Rep. Alan Clemmons (chairman of the National I-73/I-74 Corridor Association) in addition to our congressmen, but given that Clemmons has already declared his support for Barrett, let’s assume he’ll do that anyway.”
